Use 2 or 3 strands of wool at a time whilst tufting. This will result in a fuller, denser carpet.

Usually, the fabric isn’t stretched tight enough, or you aren’t pressing the tufting gun firmly enough against the fabric. Stretch the fabric as tight as possible and maintain constant pressure on the machine whilst tufting. It is best to work from the bottom up. If a large hole has formed, it is best to replace the fabric, as it is usually impossible to restore the correct tension in that area.

Whilst tufting, press the tufting gun firmly against the fabric and ensure that the fabric remains taut. On larger projects, it is normal to have to retighten the fabric from time to time.

Use one extra strand of wool. You can also work with 3 or 4 strands, as long as they fit easily through the thread guide. Also, make sure the wool can unroll freely. Working from the centre of the ball or rewinding the wool using a yarn winder often helps too.
