Video: how to make your own polymer clay earrings
In this video, we show you step by step how to make your own earrings from polymer clay: from kneading and rolling out the clay to cutting out the shapes, baking them and attaching the ear wires.
What’s in the kit?
You’ll have plenty of options to mix things up straight away. The kit contains:
- 4 colours of polymer clay
- 3 different modelling tools
- 1 sachet of gold flakes
- 8 different cutters
The 8 different cutters in particular allow you to mix and match to your heart’s content. Create different shapes, mix colours or add gold flakes for an extra touch. This way, every pair of earrings can be completely different.
What else do you need?
Almost everything is already in the pack, but you’ll need to provide the following yourself:
- A rolling pin
- A pair of pliers to attach the rings
- Baking paper
- An oven
Here’s how it works
Knead the clay thoroughly and choose your favourite colours. Roll out the clay and add some gold flakes if you like. Then cut out your shapes and use a modelling tool to make a small hole for the rings.
Next, bake the pieces for 15 minutes in a preheated oven at 120 °C. Once baked, leave them to cool completely before touching them. Then all you need to do is attach the rings and your homemade earrings are ready!
A few more handy tips
Polymer clay can leave stains on fabrics and some surfaces, so protect your table before you start. For example, work on baking paper or a suitable work mat, such as a mixed-media glass mat.
Light colours can sometimes fade slightly during baking. If necessary, you can loosely cover the clay with aluminium foil. And of course: always ensure an adult handles the baking and uses the oven, and wear oven gloves.
