What is hot foiling?
Hot foiling is a decoration technique using (coloured) foil and heat. By placing the foil over a card, envelope or other hobby project, and then touching it with a hot foil pen or applicator, the foil melts and a text or image is printed on your paper or cardboard. There are several ways to do this. We describe these in the section below.
What hot foiling techniques can I use?
To decorate your hobby projects with hot foil, use the Heat Active Pen, the Hot Foil Pen or the Hot Foil Applicator from Crafts & Co. The Heat Active Pen is a lightweight, slim model pen with a heat resistant handle and a 1.5 mm tip. After connecting the pen to the USB adapter, wait 15 seconds for it to heat up. Then you can get to work. Use a template to apply the most beautiful designs to cards and letters, or draw freehand. The Hot Foil Pen works on the same principle, but has a slightly more robust design.
Hot Foil Applicator
An alternative is the Hot Foil Applicator. This is a tool that can be compared to a laminator. It requires less manual labour. This machine is therefore ideal for larger projects, or if you know that you do not have a steady hand. Put your design together with coloured foil on top of a card or paper, fold it between a transparent piece of foil and slide the package into the applicator. A beautifully decorated project will roll out of the applicator on the other side!
What kind of foil do you use for hot foiling?
Please note that not all foils are suitable for all tools. Therefore, you should check which foil is suitable for your tool: the Heat Active Pen, Hot Foil Pen or Hot Foil Applicator. Crafts & Co has no less than 8 different colours! Also available are numerous loose stencils and greeting cards.
