About Burning Wood

When you think of Greece, you might think of white beaches, sambuca and souflaki, not wood fires. But the name of this art form does come from here! Pyrography literally means 'writing with fire', from the Greek 'pur' (fire) and 'graphos' (writing).

But the Greeks did not invent it... This art form actually dates back to prehistoric times, when people used the charred remains of their fire to make designs. So much for the history lesson!

How does the wood burner work?

1. Please note: first screw the desired attachment into the wood burner, because it will become very hot after heating!
2. Now put the plug of the wood burner in the socket and heat it up in about 6 minutes.
3. Draw the pattern you want on your piece of wood. You can draw it freehand or use a stencil. If you want to park the burner for a while, you can do so on the stand provided.
4. When you're all done, unplug the wood burner and let it cool down completely.
5. Store the wood burner in a dry place.

Changing the attachment while burning wood

1. Unplug the wood burner and allow it to cool completely before changing the attachment.
2. Unscrew the nozzle with pliers and screw the other nozzle on. Never touch the hot nozzle!

Tip

A smooth, hard wood (such as birch or poplar plywood) gives better results than a wood with many grooves.
